Hosted by the Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP), on behalf of the University of Melbourne, the Melbourne Entrepreneurship Gala is about celebrating entrepreneurship, and recognising the incredible community who are supporting the emerging talent who are driving innovation in our ecosystem. The night is about community and collaboration, diversity and inclusion, and an ultimate belief that together we can make the world a better place. As part of the evening, we assemble some of the best emerging talent to share their entrepreneurial journeys, and encourage those in attendance to consider how they might help foster the future of entrepreneurship.
The Accelerator Launch has become one of the largest startup networking events in Australia, attracting investors, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders, all eager to discover the latest emerging entrepreneurial talent — with some of Australia’s most recognised startups including Honee, Carbar, CNSDose and Brosa having all taken the stage in recent years. In 2018, more than 1000 guests packed the Plaza Ballroom to witness the MAP18 Accelerator cohort presenting their successful pitches in front of a ‘who’s who’ of Melbourne’s startup ecosystem.
At the conclusion of every Accelerator cohort, the 10 teams take the stage to share their progress, their milestones, and celebrate their incredible achievements – on a special night that sees them welcomed into our illustrious alumni community. In 2018, we heard such a diverse range of pitches, from the Pride Cup harnessing the power of sport to create more inclusive environments for LGBTIQ+ athletes, officials and supporters, to Acusensus’ detecting distracted drivers through their world-leading technology that is certain to save lives - this year’s cohort was as outstanding as any we’ve seen.
